Brain Injury Awareness Month 2024
June is Brain Injury Awareness Month!
Brain injury is a widespread issue that demands a collective response. Each June, we observe Brain Injury Awareness Month to shine a light on the impact of brain injury and to educate the community about it.
- Every year, 69 million people worldwide sustain a traumatic brain injury.
- In Canada, someone has a stroke every 5 minutes.
- 1 in 4 individuals accessing mental health and substance use services have a history of brain injury.
- Those with brain injury are 2.5 times more likely to be incarcerated.
- Up to 82% of people experiencing homelessness have a traumatic brain injury.
How can you get involved?
1. RAISE AWARENESS – Initiate a conversation with your friends, family, and colleagues about brain injury.
2. SHARE YOUR BRAIN INJURY STORY – Help us bring invisible injuries to light. Whether you have a brain injury or care for someone who does, share how brain injury has affected you and what you wish others knew about it.
3. MAKE A DONATION – BIAYR offers a wide range of programs and services for brain injury survivors and caregivers, and your donations support these initiatives.
